Global, flexible and individual support
Erasmus+ project 2020-1-PL01-KA204-081965: Enhancing the life experiences of adults with special learning needs, as well as their trainers and parents, through supported decision-making.
Decider is an Erasmus+ project that aims to develop digital resources for the training and education of specialists in the field of disability while offering services for supported decision-making. It was born from the Erasmus+ I-Decide project and led by Support-Girona with the aim to develop a methodology for the supported decision-making process.
The project has the participation of six expert organisations from different areas related to the field of disability, such as IT and the use of new technologies, the provision of support services for people with intellectual disabilities, a self-help organisation, educators and trainers, persons with disabilities, and social workers.
Decider is inspired by the United Nations International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and, particularly, its Article 12, which refers to the equality of all persons under the law and the right of persons with disabilities to have supported decision-making in accordance with their will, wishes, and preferences, in a manner that maximises their autonomy and quality of life.
Structurally, implementing a supported decision-making model involves overcoming many social, organisational, and professional barriers, including the lack of knowledge, mechanisms, and resources that can enable this change of paradigm. Persons with disabilities must be included in the design of these services.
